David Mitchell is a retired global Aerospace and Defense executive who serves as Mayor of Columbiana, Alabama.  He also serves as Vice-chair of the Shelby County Mayors' Association, member of the Alabama League of Municipalities (ALM) Transportation, Infrastructure and Communications Committee, and as an Adjunct Professor of Management at the University of Montevallo.  David is a graduate of the ALM Economic Development Academy and has been recognized by the ALM as an Advanced Certified Municipal Official.

Prior to retirement, David held executive leadership positions for leading aerospace and defense companies including Boeing, Lockheed Martin and BAE North America.  He began his industry career as Vice President, Government Services at Pemco Aeroplex, Inc., leading aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul operations at its Birmingham International Airport facility.

David holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aviation Management from the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University and a Master of Management Degree from Webster University.  After receiving his commission via the AFROTC Program at Auburn, he served as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer and Fighter Pilot who was Pilot and / or Instructor Pilot qualified in the A-10, F-4, F-15 & T-38 aircraft. 

 

David and his wife Kathy have three children and five grandchildren.
